Laura Mylonas Scholarship Fund
The Happily Ever After League is proud to announce that we will be initiating the Laura Mylonas Scholarship Fund for college aged children whose moms have been negatively impacted financially from a cancer diagnosis. Laura Mylonas was a recipient of HEAL and a large part of our community. Laura was to be the Maid of Honor at her dear friends Linda and Jeff Inwood’s wedding. Laura did not make it to their wedding but her friends used their special day as a fundraiser to start this wonderful program for HEAL so that her memory may live on for her two boys Markos and Marios.
Criteria for Scholarship Applicant
Recipient must be from Arizona and qualified in one of the following three categories:
• Mother was a HEAL recipient
• Mother currently undergoing cancer treatment or went through cancer treatment in the last year
• Mother has died from cancer
• The student should be a high school senior through junior year in college.
Recipient Selection Based On
• GPA
• Extra-curricular activities
• Essay and financial need
• Once again we are trying to choose a recipient who we feel is a deserving student.
Amount of Scholarship
One $2,000 scholarship or if there are two very qualified individuals it would be two $1,000 scholarships. The scholarship will be for college tuition purposes only
Dates for Entry
We encourage all college aged students of HEAL recipients to apply for the scholarship between the dates of March 15 and April 10, 2011.
Presentation of Award
The scholarship(s) will be presented with a certificate at the annual Fairy Tale Tea. Please note, the actual scholarship check will be made out to the college of their choice and given to the recipient when their tuition is due (or in advance but check will be made out to the college or university not the student).
